A YEAR OF TAKING SAAS SERIOUSLY
No one would confuse 2010 with the year that SaaS-based applications became the norm for the use and purchase of mid-market accounting software. But the year did represent the first year that quality resellers started hopping onto the cloud. NetSuite, Intacct, SAP and Acumatica all made their mark in signing up resellers. My vote is that SAP and Acumatica did the best in attracting high-quality VARs and SAP is starting to look the most impressive. During December, it issued a press release announcing VARs that had been promoting Business By Design on their websites for most of the year, although it turns out the product apparently wasn't ready for sale until December. These included Arxis Technology and Skyytek. In the inscrutable world of SAP public relations, one name yet to be officially announced by SAP is accounting firm Sikich, which issued its own press release a few days after SAP started releasing names. I see this as a big win for SAP since Sikich is a fairly high-power Dynamics reseller. Skyytek was important since the former top NetSuite reseller has been one of the bigger players selling SaaS products and Arxis is important because of the prominence of partners David Cieslak and Bob Gaby.
